Sure, but all the societal problems we’re having are a product of adults using social media. We don’t talk about that because we resist self-reflection, and social platforms drive a large part of today’s economy. We could eliminate content algorithms, though.

Europe’s changing relationship with the U.S. will have long-term consequences for U.S. tech companies as Europe slowly extricates what it now views as a security risk from its tech stack. Much like China, it will trend to home-grown or open solutions.

As the rest of the world advances, the U.S. recoils at the horror of future electrified transportation and pulls Western automakers with it. The long-term benefit accrues to China.

Lots of companies are over-indexing on AI to justify their valuations at the expense of the human capital that earns those valuations. If AI investments continue to underperform, they’ll have set a bunch of money on fire to create the appearance of being onto something.

In making a deal with Musk for Tesla to supply energy, the UK has taken on a national security risk. It seems pretty irresponsible to put critical infrastructure in the hands of a foreign agent who interferes with your self-governance and elections.

It’s a bad look for Grammarly that it took this long. Imagine the firestorm that would happen if an unlicensed AI Taylor Swift started giving people guitar lessons and helping them with their songwriting. Grammarly bet on a power dynamic without bothering with the obvious optics of what they were doing.

Hegseth’s threatening message to Anthropic that the US might quasi-federalize proves the EU’s point. US tech has long enjoyed the advantage of scale, making competition difficult. One way to disrupt that dominance is to start treating it as a national security threat, forcing the next-best alternative to be the best. Not good for US tech in the long run.

If there’s a time to do this, it’s right now. Truth Social loses money. Its “value” is tied entirely to Trump’s presence on the platform the reputation that paying him off earns favor. After Trump leaves office, the platform is dead.

The government has its sticky fingers in more media. Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Brothers could be a poison pill, though. To satisfy Trump, it will minimally need to go the way of CBS, a FOX Lite. To satisfy MAGA, it will need to go extra hard, full FOX. Either way, it means turning over its audience after a merger financed by an ungodly amount of debt. To pay back that debt, Paramount needs to add customers and raise prices. 1/🧵
